Cate Riegner is the Founder and President of MindShare, a San Francisco-based market research and consulting firm, and Director of Market Research at Third Age Media. Prior to starting her own company, Ms. Riegner worked as an account planner with the Technology Group of Foote Cone & Belding advertising in San Francisco. Her expertise lies in helping marketers, content providers, advertising and interactive agencies use the Web for branding, strategic planning and market research. Her clients include Charles Schwab, Ernst & Young, Excite, Intuit, Kiplingers, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Leo Burnett U.S.A., MetaDesign and MSNBC. Ms. Riegner is a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, and a nominating judge for the 1999 Webby Awards.
Cate initially worked as a research analyst and project manager for National Analysts, a former division of Booz Allen & Hamilton. She managed the design, execution and analysis of marketing research studies for clients in the broadcast media and pharmaceutical industries, including Nickelodeon, MTV, Bristol Meyers Squibb and Merck Sharpe & Dohme. In 1995, Cate moved into advertising in order to focus more specifically on branding and corporate communications research. As an account planner, her role was to ensure that an understanding of consumer attitudes and reactions are brought to bear at every stage of advertising development. She joined the Technology Group of Foote Cone & Belding in 1996 and served as the account planner for Excite, Inc. The "Are You Experienced" campaign succeeded in raising top-of-mind brand awareness over 150% in target markets.
Cate holds an M.A. in Communication from The Annenberg School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in European History from Smith College.
